In the game, each player tries to build cotton mills, coal mines and so on in the historical environment of Lancaster. The game has two periods: canal (before the discovery of the steam engine) and rail (after the discovery of the steam engine). In the first phase, players try to transport as much cotton as possible by ships, and in the second phase, by trains. The winner is the one who has the best developed infrastructure during both periods.
