The two spymasters know the identities of all 25 secret agents. But the members of the spymaster team only know the agents' nicknames.
In the Codenames board game, two teams compete to be the first to contact all their agents. A spymaster gives his team a one-word clue that can even lead to the identification of multiple agents. But be careful – you can specify not the identity of your team's agent, but the identity of the opponent's team's agent. In this case, your opponents gain an advantage. In addition, both teams try not to hit the only available assassin, because if they do, they immediately lose the game.
The game is played by randomly placing 25 spy alias cards. Then the spymaster receives a card that indicates in which places the agents belong to one or another team, where the killer or simple observers are.
The spymasters take turns saying clues, which are words and numbers. The word must be associated with the nickname, and the number tells how many agents are associated with this clue.
The game is won by the team whose spies are all flipped. Keep in mind that you can make a mistake and open the opponents agent, thereby helping them.
The game lasts 20 minutes, but once you've played one game, you'll want to play it again. This is a party game and is designed for 4 to 8 players, but can be played with more. The game contains 200 nickname cards (double-sided) which will allow you to play this game many times.
