Detective: City of Angels is a game set in the dark and violent Los Angeles of the 1940s, full of mystery, deception and investigation for 1-5 players. Most players will become LAPD homicide detectives, hungry for glory and willing to do anything to successfully solve a crime, even if it means threatening suspects, hiding evidence, and hiring complainants to find dirt on their fellow detectives. One player will become The Chisel, whose goal is to delay and deceive the detectives using bluff, manipulation, and often even the simplest of lies.
Detective: City of Angels uses an innovative ARC (Adaptive Response Card) system to recreate the feeling of questioning a suspect. Suspects don't respond in paragraphs of text, instead, The Chisel player carefully chooses how they respond. When Billy O'Shea claims the victim was a regular at Topsy's Nightclub, is he telling the truth or is The Chisel trying to lead the detectives down a dead end? Detectives can reject answers they think are false, but if they're wrong, The Chisel will have something to blackmail them with.
Detective: City of Angels features separate, detailed casebooks for both the detectives and The Chisel. Each crime is a carefully constructed puzzle that can unfold in several ways depending on how the detectives choose to conduct their investigations. As detectives try to uncover fresh evidence and hot leads, hidden suspects may be discovered and new questions raised, creating a unique story.
