You are the ruler of a small kingdom. Your desire is to expand and develop this kingdom and make it even more beautiful and pleasant for its inhabitants.
Each player receives a starting number of cards at the start of the game. In the center of the table is a selection of cards that players can purchase. From choosing which cards to buy and how to play with the purchased cards, players assemble their deck of cards with which they aim to score as many victory points as possible.
The theme of the board game is about managing a small landholding with the goal of expanding it into a large and majestic kingdom.
The board game consists of 500 cards. At the start of each game, 10 of the 25 Kingdom cards are selected, allowing you to play the game in a different starting position each time.
The game is played in three phases:
Phase 1 – Action – players can use one action card. Some cards provide an additional action that can only be used in this phase, other cards may have an effect during the Purchase phase.
Phase 2 – Buy – the player can buy a card. Each card costs between 0 and 8. If the action card used provided additional purchases, these purchases are also carried out together, and players can buy all the cards they need at once without having to pay money for each card separately.
Phase 3 – Clearing – the player places all the cards in the play area together with all the cards left in their hands into the used deck and draws 5 new cards from the unused deck. When there are no more cards left in the deck of unused cards, the used cards are shuffled and the required amount is taken from the new deck.
The board game ends when the last 3 victory point card is bought, or when all three draw piles are exhausted.
