Many years before the War of the Ring, the Dark Lord Sauron attempted to subvert the will of the kings and rulers of the Free Peoples by subtly manipulating them. His aim was to make them his unwilling minions, or at least to weaken them in preparation for his campaigns of conquest. When the war began, they fought the Dark Lord bravely, but the weakness of some, created by Sauron, was fatal.
The role of the kings of the Free Peoples, their weaknesses and strengths are the core of Kings of Middle-earth , the War of the Ring expansion. The part of the story they occupy is greatly expanded, with new figures and rulers brought to the table like Theoden Denethor, Dain, Brand and Thranduil. Additional rules for siege battles, along with siege device figures and new units to complement Shadow armies are also found in the expansion.
