What if the Battle of the Five Armies had been lost to the Free Men and Dain had never become King Under the Mountain? What if the Dwarves of the Iron Hills were just scattered descendants of their own, fighting a battle only to defend their home? What if Dale was never rebuilt?
The War of the Ring board game has a predictable "historical" ending to the Battle of the Five Armies. The Fate of Erebor is a variant of the War of the Ring game in which it is decided that the Shadow player has won the Battle of the Five Armies, which changes the course of the story drastically. Orcs populate the Lonely Mountain and build a fortress there. The dwarves remain in the Iron Hills, but their community is far from prosperous. In the aftermath of the lost battle, Lake City no longer exists, Dale Kingdom was never rebuilt and only ruins remain. How much can Fate of Erebor change the War of the Ring? Discover by playing this variant of the story.
