Hegemony is an asymmetric politico-economic card-based board game for 2-4 players that puts you in the shoes of one of the socio-economic classes of a fictional state: Working Class, Middle Class, Capitalist Class, or the State itself.
Working Class controls workers. The Capitalist Class controls the companies. The Middle Class combines some elements of the Working Class and the Capitalist Class, as it has both workers who can work, but also can create companies, albeit smaller ones. Finally, the State tries to keep everyone happy by providing benefits and subsidies when needed, but also by keeping taxes flowing and not going into debt.
Although players have different goals, they are limited by various rules that influence most of their actions, such as Taxation, Labor Market, Foreign Trade and so on. Voting to change these rules and using your influence to change them is an important element of the game. Through careful planning, strategic action, and political maneuvering, you will need to raise the power of your class and fulfill its agenda. Will you be able to lead your class to victory?
Hegemony is strongly based on real academic principles such as Social Democracy, Neoliberalism, Nationalism and Globalism and allows players to see the consequences of applying these theories through immersive gameplay. There are many paths to becoming a hegemon – which one will you take?
