Messina 1347 takes place at the beginning of the Black Death epidemic and as it spreads through the old city. During this period, merchant ships carrying luxury goods to Europe brought an epidemic never seen before to these countries, and one of the first cities to be affected was Messina, Italy.
In the game, players become important families of Messina who flee from the city to the suburbs in fear of being affected by the plague. In doing so, they focus on rescuing other residents and fighting the plague infection in the city. They must also strive to expand and prosper in their country villas, where they temporarily house the rescued inhabitants. They are all waiting for the epidemic to die down and they can return to the city and dominate certain parts of it.
