Middle of the nineteenth century. The city of Barcelona is the most densely populated city in Europe. Soon after the demolition of the old city walls, Ildefons Cerda, who is now considered the inventor of urbanism, presented a plan to create the Eixample, the extension of Barcelona that the city so badly needed. Its construction began in 1860.
In the Barcelona game, you will become a construction worker in 19th century Barcelona, working to build a new district in the city. Your main goal is to construct buildings to house the citizens leaving the old part of the city and at the same time, you will need to build streets, tram lines and create public services. You may even decide to explore Modernisme, a new architectural and artistic style that is gaining popularity among the wealthy.
Barcelona is played over several rounds, interspersed with three scoring phases, before the final scoring phase. Each round, each player will have one turn consisting of two or more actions, a betting phase and then preparing for the next move. At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins.
